UML issues whip to vote against CM Sodari of Sudurpaschim

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has directed its lawmakers to vote against the trust motion of Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister (CM) Dirgha Bahadur Sodari.

CM Sodari is set to face a vote of confidence today (Friday).

A parliamentary party meeting held in Dhangadhi on Friday decided not to give a vote of confidence to CM Sodari.

The party has mandated that all its lawmakers be present at the provincial assembly meeting and vote against CM Sodari.

On Wednesday, CM Sodari sent a letter to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat requesting necessary arrangements for the vote of confidence.

Following his request, Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari scheduled a provincial assembly meeting for 4 PM on Friday.

The vote of confidence follows the formation of a coalition between the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress at the central level, leading the UML to withdraw its support from the Sudurpaschim government.

According to constitutional provisions, CM Sodari must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of any coalition party withdrawing support.

Currently, CM Sodari has the backing of 10 lawmakers from the CPN (Maoist Center), four from the Unified Socialist, and one from the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

With a total of 53 members in the provincial assembly, CM Sodari needs the support of at least 27 lawmakers to retain his position.
