Tourist arrivals increase by 21 percent in seven months



KATHMANDU: The number of foreign tourists arriving in Nepal has surged by 21.22 percent over the first seven months of 2024.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 647,615 international visitors came to Nepal through July this year, compared to 534,207 during the same period last year.

The monthly breakdown is as follows: In January 2024, Nepal welcomed 79,100 tourists; February saw 97,426; March recorded 128,000; April had 100,067; May attracted 111,376; June hosted 76,736; and July saw 64,599 visitors.

The July 2024 arrival numbers reflect an increase of nearly 12 percent compared to the previous month.

The Board’s statistics indicate a 11.9 percent rise in foreign tourist arrivals for July this year compared to July last year, when 75,726 tourists visited.

Historically, July 2022 saw 44,462 tourists, while July 2021 had 3,633, and July 2020 recorded just 196 visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July 2019, prior to the pandemic, 70,916 foreign tourists had arrived in Nepal.
