SC halts Home Minister Lamichhane’s volunteer traffic enforcement plan

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has intervened to halt Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s decision to authorize volunteers to enforce traffic rules on the roads.

Issuing an interim order on Sunday, the apex court has temporarily suspended the immediate implementation of the Home Minister’s directive.

Earlier, Home Minister Lamichhane had instructed the police to engage traffic rule violators as volunteers on the streets to help them recognize their mistakes.
