Lawmakers call for swift resumption of Nepal-China transits closed due to pandemic

KATHMANDU: Members of Parliament have urged for the immediate reopening of Nepal-China transit points that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During today’s ‘zero hour’ session of the House of Representatives (HoR), NC lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu expressed contentment with reports that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha discussed the reopening of transit points along the Nepal-China border, including Tinker in Darchula, during his recent visit to China.

Badu noted that during the Prime Minister’s past visit to China, there were discussions about resuming transit points, but no progress has been made so far.

He called on the Foreign Minister to provide clarification on this matter.

Thakur Prasad Gaire of CPN-UML urged the government to preserve Palpa’s historic Rani Mahal (Palace), while Tara Lama Tamang demanded financial assistance for sugarcane farmers.

Pradip Paudel from NC brought attention to the issue of server downtime at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Another NC lawmaker Badri Pandey raised concerns about the difficulties faced by the people of Bajura following a landslide and delays in constructing a bridge in Martadi.

Devendra Poudel of CPN-Maoist Center urged the government to establish an administrative office in Galkot of Baglung to provide government services closer to the people who struggle to reach the district headquarters for administrative purposes.

Additionally, Dhawal Shumsher JB Rana, Basudev Ghimire, Bindhyabasini Kansakar, Tejulal Chaudhary, Damodar Poudel Bairagi, Durga Rai, Pradip Yadav, Prabhu Hajara, Binita Kathayat, Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, Nagina Yadav, Nirmala Koirala, Narayan Prasad Acharya, Nisha Dangi, Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar, Pratima Gautam, Pratiksha Mukhiya, Dikpal Kumari Shahi, Deepak Giri, Deepa Sharma, and Dr. Toshima Karki raised various contemporary issues.
