Jomsom-Pokhara flight service resumes after a three-month hiatus

JOMSOM: The Jomsom-Pokhara flight service has resumed operations after a hiatus of approximately three months.

The air transport route from Pokhara, the Gandaki province headquarters, to Jomsom, a tourism hub in Mustang, has been closed since November 2023 due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Summit Airlines, which suspended its air service on December 6 last year, began boarding passengers again on March 1, as announced by Jomsom Airport Chief Hiron Shah.

Additionally, Tara Airlines, which halted its service since November 26, is also gearing up to resume Jomsom-Pokhara flights.

“With the improvement in weather conditions and the onset of the tourist-friendly season, the Pokhara-Jomsom flight service has been reinstated,” shared Shah.

The Summit Airlines conducted two flights on Friday, he added.

The revival of the flight service comes as a relief for locals, pilgrims, and tourists in Mustang, especially during the upgradation work on the Beni-Jomsom road stretch in the Myagdi section.

The resumption is also expected to boost tourism in Mustang, leading to an increase in tourist arrivals.

In 2023, Mustang welcomed around 91,000 foreign tourists, according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

The flow of vehicles heading towards Mustang through the Beni-Jomsom road has been gradually increasing in the past couple of days, as reported by Rajkumar Thapa, Chief of District Traffic Police Office.
