KATHMANDU: The Mid-Hill Highway in Nepal faces a severe obstruction due to heavy snowfall in the Western and Far-Western regions of the country.

The road section connecting East-Rukum, in particular, has been significantly affected by the recent snowfall, causing disruption in the Lukum-Patihalna section.

The intense snowfall, beginning on Wednesday night and persisting into Thursday, has completely blocked a 19-kilometer stretch of the Lukum-Patihalna road, making it impassable for vehicles.

Authorities are currently working to clear the road, but as of now, it remains closed, causing significant challenges for transportation.

Madhav Prasad Sharma, the Chief District Officer of East Rukum, reported that efforts are underway to remove the accumulated snow from the road.

Stranded passengers have been rescued by the police and local authorities and relocated to Rukumkot for their safety.

The impact of heavy snowfall extends beyond the Lukum-Patihalna section, affecting roads in Bhume Rural Municipality and Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality.

This has led to disruptions in livelihoods, with network connections also hindered by the challenging weather conditions.
