KATHMANDU: A 47-year-old Lal Bahadur Lama of Lalitpur, running the Sea Star Training Center in Maharajgunj has been apprehended on fraud charges, accused of duping job-seeking individuals out of over NPR 100 million by promising lucrative overseas employment.

Lama allegedly enticed people like Suvas Waibha, Rajesh Tumsing Magar, and Dawa Lama with enticing job opportunities in nations like Lithuania, Canada, and Singapore. He purportedly received sums ranging from NPR 500,000 to 1.5 million from unemployed individuals in Kathmandu’s Maharajgunj area, assuring them of securing foreign jobs through the Sea Star Training Center.

It’s alleged that after arriving in Singapore, these individuals were sent back directly to Nepal from the airport. Lama was apprehended from Shankhamul.

Preliminary investigations reveal Lama amassed more than NPR 100 million from numerous unemployed youths, with 997 receipts seized from the training center. Authorities have handed him over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further inquiry and legal proceedings.
