Final rites of senior journalist Pokharel performed



KATHMANDU: Final rites of senior journalist and former Acting General Manager of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Gokul Prasad Pokharel, have been performed at Pashupati Aryaghat.

His son Anup Pokharel lit the funeral pyre. Late Pokharel is survived by a wife, a son and two daughters.

Journalist Pokharel passed away on Monday in course of treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital at the age of 87. Born at Kochinde of Dhankuta in 1993 BS, he was suffering from lung problems in recent period.

He was former member of National Human Rights Commission, founding General-Secretary of Nepal Press Institute (NPI) as well as its President for two tenures. He also served as Editor of Gorkhapatra Daily and founding Chief Editor of Muna, children’s magazine.
