KATHMANDU: The government has been operating the Nagarik Arogya Kendra (Citizen Wellness Centre at 311 local levels across the country.

Director General of the Department of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine, Dr. Basudev Upadhyay, said 311 such centers have been set up this year with the goal of establishing a citizen wellness center each at each and every local level.

According to him, such centers would be established at all local levels within this year. The Citizen Wellness Centers are being set up to minimize non-communicable diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, cardiac-related issues, diabetes, kidney and respiratory-related and mental diseases as well as obesity.

Dr. Upadhyay said that the Ayurvedic Dispensaries at the local level will run the citizen wellness center. He added that the District Ayurveda Dispensary will assign a focal person at the wellness center.

The wellness centers will treat the above-mentioned non-communicable diseases and also train people to adopt healthy lifestyle. Similarly, the centers will conduct public awareness programs on adopting ayurvedic living style and healthy diet. Each center will form five citizen wellness groups at the local level.
