Local level by-election: Voting continues peacefully



KATHMANDU: Voting for the local level by-election is taking place peacefully across various localities to elect representatives for 41 vacant positions.

In Hetauda Sub-metropolis, Makwanpur, voting is being conducted in a free and fair atmosphere at ward no. 12.

Voters have been lining up to exercise their rights at the voting centers stationed at Pratibha Basic School and Bishnu Jyoti Basic School.

The total number of voters in this ward is 8,053. Twelve candidates—nine from various political parties and three independents—are contesting the election.

In Rajbiraj, five voting centers have been set up for the election of chairs in wards no. 1 and 4 of Dankeshwori Municipality.

The voting process is proceeding peacefully. Each ward has eight candidates vying for the position.

According to the District Election Office, there are 2,635 voters in ward no. 1 and 1,281 in ward no. 4.

Meanwhile, two voting centers in Mahabu Rural Municipality-5 in Dailekh District have witnessed voters lining up since early morning to elect a new chairperson.

A 92-year-old woman, Jagat Kumari Singh, cast her vote after arriving at the center. There are seven candidates in the race, and a total of 1,760 voters in the municipality.

Reports from Humla District state that voting for the vice-chairman of Sarkegad Rural Municipality is also progressing peacefully, with voters braving the cold weather to cast their ballots.

In Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu District, voting is being held at 20 locations to elect a mayor and two ward chairs.

Voters are eager to exercise their right to vote. Voting officer Indira Karki confirmed that 20 candidates are contesting for mayor, while nine candidates are running for chair of ward no. 1 and twelve candidates for chair of ward no. 4.
