Government announces recent Cabinet meeting decisions



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide a discount on capital gains tax for compensating land acquired for the Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway, a national pride project.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on August 29 under Section 18 (1) of the Financial Act, 2081.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, and government spokesperson, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced that 5.104 hectares of national forest land in Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot, will be allocated for the construction of the Pipaltar-Deudi roadway.

Grant Assistance Accepted

The Cabinet also approved the acceptance of Rs 3.67 billion in grant assistance from the EU and UNESCO for the third phase of the Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Project. Additionally, Rs 1.46 billion will be provided by the German government to strengthen electricity distribution.

Additional Decisions:

Bindabasini Kansakar, a victim of an attempted murder, will receive treatment costs as per a court decision. The amount will be recovered from the defendant and reimbursed to the victims’ relief fund.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya is permitted to attend a program organized by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems in Singapore from September 24 to 26.

The Cabinet approved the visit of the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs to attend the 82nd anniversary event of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization in Bangkok from September 9 to 13.

The Minister for Health and Population is permitted to participate in a program scheduled for September 26 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Appointments and Transfers:

The Cabinet transferred Additional Inspectors General of the Armed Police Force.

Joint Secretary Bharat Khanal was appointed as General Consul in Guangzhou, Jhakka Prasad Acharya in Kolkata, and Laxmi Prasad Niraula in Lhasa.

Dinesh Raj Dahal (DC) was appointed as Chairman of the Film Development Board.

The central office of the Yogmaya Ayurved University will be established in Khandbari Municipality, Sankhuwasabha district, with three hectares of land allocated for its use.

Telecommunications and Administrative Changes:

NCell Axiata Ltd was granted permission for its third renewal in installments under Section 20 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053. The renewal fee of Rs 5 billion per year will be paid in four installments, with a 10 percent interest on the installment plan.

Eknarayan Aryal, the Home Secretary, was appointed Chief Secretary of the Nepal government following the retirement of Chief Secretary Leela Devi Gartaula on August 31.

The Cabinet accepted the resignation of Dr. Toya Narayan Gyawali, Secretary at the National Planning Commission (NPC).

The organization and management plan for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and a temporary quota for the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security were approved by the Cabinet.
