KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Women’s League begins today (Sunday), with the opening match featuring Koshi Province against Syangja’s Waling Municipality.

The game will take place at the ANFA complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur, and is set to start after 3 pm.

The league, which is structured in two phases, will see 10 teams compete in the first stage.

Koshi Province, Sudurpaschim Province, and Karnali Province, having secured top positions in the qualifying stage, have advanced to the first stage.

Additionally, two clubs from each of the three divisions (A, B, and C) have been directly placed in the league stage.

The participating teams include three departmental sides—APF Football Club, Tribhuvan Army Football Club, and Nepal Police Club—as well as two teams each from A and B division clubs (Sankata Club, Bagmati Youth Club), and two municipal teams (Waling and Chandrapur Municipalities).

The first round will consist of 40 matches, after which the top five teams in the points table will advance to the Super League.

In the Super League, these five teams will compete in a double round-robin format.

Following 20 matches, the top four teams will enter the playoffs and finals.

The playoffs will determine which teams advance to the final: the top two teams will face off in the first playoff, with the winner moving directly to the final and the loser playing an eliminator.

The third and fourth-placed teams will compete in the second playoff, with the winner facing the loser of the first playoff in another eliminator match.

The winners of these matches will then face off in the final.

The league will feature a total of 69 games after the initial 21 qualifiers.

The champion of the women’s league will receive Rs 10 lakh, while the runner-up will earn Rs 5 lakh.

Awards of Rs 1 lakh each will be given for the Best Player and the Fair Play Team.

Additionally, the Best Goalkeeper and Top Scorer will be awarded Rs 50,000 each, and the Player of the Match for each game will receive Rs 5,000.
