KATHMANDU: The Education, Health, and Technology Committee of the House of Representatives has instructed the government and the Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to permit the operation of nursing colleges that meet the necessary criteria.

During a committee meeting held today, the CTEVT was directed to allow nursing institutions to offer classes starting from the upcoming academic session.

The committee emphasized the need to amend both the CTEVT Act, 2054, and the National Medical Education Act, 2075, to facilitate this process.

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, stated that reforms within the CTEVT are urgently needed due to numerous complaints from students regarding its performance.

Committee Chair Ambar Bahadur Thapa mentioned that the decision was made to ensure students have access to nursing education and to prevent nursing institutions from being left in limbo.

Discussions between various institutions, including the CTEVT, the Medical Education Commission, and members of the committee, focused on addressing legal and practical obstacles.

Nursing institutions have complained that they are being prevented from operating despite meeting the required criteria, while the CTEVT claimed that the Commission is responsible for the obstructions.

The Commission, however, argued that the CTEVT is not functioning in accordance with the law.
