KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has defended the government’s decision to transfer DIG Dr. Manoj KC, stating that the officer has been given a better position.

Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Development, Economic Affairs, and Good Governance Committee at Singh Durbar, Minister Lekhak described the transfer and promotion of government employees as routine processes.

The government has faced criticism for moving DIG KC, who had been effectively leading investigations into a high-profile fake Bhutanese refugee case.

During his brief tenure at the Special Bureau, KC oversaw the arrests of Pratik Thapa, son of CPN-UML Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Bechan Jha.

Additionally, the name of Nepali Congress leader and current Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Deuba has also been mentioned in connection with the case.

The decision to transfer DIG KC, just two months into his role at the Special Bureau, has sparked controversy and raised questions about the intentions of the ruling coalition of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress.

In his defense, Minister Lekhak asserted that KC’s new assignment at the National Police Academy is in line with his abilities and qualifications.

Meanwhile, the CPN (Maoist Center) has accused the ruling alliance of attempting to shield its leaders by transferring KC following the arrests of Thapa and Jha.

The position at the Special Bureau has since been filled by DIG Rajan Adhikari.
