KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has emphasized the importance of the rule of law in democracy at a meeting of the parliamentary Development, Economic Affairs, and Good Governance Committee at Singha Durbar today.
The discussion centered on the need for a national ethics policy to promote good governance.
In response to questions from parliamentarians regarding the handling of various cases, Home Minister Lekhak stated, “In a democracy, no case is pursued solely based on someone’s desire. Files are not opened simply because someone wishes it. Prosecution occurs according to the law, not personal whims.”
He further explained, “What does ‘opening a file’ mean? It implies a case should be prosecuted, but this must be done in accordance with the law. No case is prosecuted due to personal insistence; it is processed according to legal procedures.”
Minister Lekhak also highlighted the role of virtue in motivating people to act ethically.
“I commit to making this a priority for the government and welcome suggestions from the parliamentary committee to support this effort,” he said.
