Leaders claim NC-UML coalition govt will be formed by tomorrow

Leaders have claimed that a coalition government between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML will be finalized by Tuesday. According to high-level sources, discussions are ongoing between the NC and UML regarding power sharing. It is expected that a framework will be completed by tomorrow, initiating the process of forming a new coalition government.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, has indicated that the talk about changing the power equation is merely a rumor. Responding to the questions about the power coalition change, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Lamichhane stated that he has no information about any ongoing discussion to change in the power equation.

DPM Mahaseth reaches Balkot at UML Chair Oli’s call; UML Vice Chair Paudel also present

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Raghubir Mahaseth, has arrived at CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli’s residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur, following a summons from Oli. Mahaseth, who heads the UML team in the government, went to Balkot after attending a Cabinet meeting at Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s official residence in Baluwatar on Monday evening.

Ram Bahadur Bamjan sentenced to 10 years in prison and Rs. 500,000 compensation

The District Court of Sarlahi has sentenced ‘ascetic’ Ram Bahadur Bamjan to 10 years in prison and a compensation of Rs. 500,000 for committing sexual offenses against a minor girl. According to registrar Sadan Adhikari, Judge Jeevan Kumar Bhandari’s bench ruled that Bamjan should serve 10 years in prison and pay Rs. 500,000 in compensation to the victim. Last Monday, Bamjan was found guilty of committing sexual offenses against the minor, and today’s verdict determined his sentence.

PM briefs Ministers: This coalition will last, no changes ahead

Amid efforts for a power-sharing agreement between CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has affirmed that the current coalition will continue steadily. He made this statement during a briefing at the Cabinet meeting held on Monday at Singha Durbar. “The reports in the media are just rumors. We are still in dialogue with our coalition partners,” said Rekha Sharma, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, quoting Dahal, “The Prime Minister briefed us on the internal situation and dismissed external rumors.”

Nepal should not accept BRI projects as loans: NC

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has concluded that it cannot accept the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects previously agreed upon by the Chinese government as loans. A meeting of the party’s current and former office bearers held on Monday discussed the possibility of accepting BRI projects as “cooperation or grants,” but decided against accepting them as loans.

No involvement of Mahara and Pun in 60 kg gold smuggling case: CIB

The Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), AIG Shyamlal Gyawali, has stated that there is no evidence linking former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and General Secretary of CPN-Maoist Center affiliated student union, Deepesh Pun, to the 60 kg gold smuggling case. Gyawali shared this information during a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday, where he also provided details regarding the second phase of the gold smuggling investigation. Regarding the investigation into gold smuggling, Gyawali mentioned that 3,194.668 kg of gold had been smuggled, including electronic appliances, water pumps, smartwatches, and brake pads.

TRC Bill: Task force formed to resolve TRC issues

A task force has been formed to resolve issues related to transitional justice. On Thursday, Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba reached an agreement to finalize the issues related to transitional justice. Following this agreement, a task force comprising one member from each of the three parties was formed on Sunday to draft a proposal for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) bill.

32 quintals of gold smuggled in electronic items and brake shoes: CIB

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has concluded that approximately 32 quintals of gold were smuggled, concealed within electronic items and brake shoes. In a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday, the CIB provided details of the second phase of their gold smuggling investigation, revealing that 3,194.668 kg of gold had been smuggled in this manner. The market value of the smuggled gold is estimated to be Rs 30.82 billion.

NEPSE rises by double digits, trading volume shrinks

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a double-digit increase on Monday, the second trading day of the week. The NEPSE index rose by 16.29 points, reaching 2,053 points. Shares of 176 companies increased in value, while shares of 60 companies decreased. Throughout the day, 7,165,735 shares of 323 companies were traded, amounting to a total turnover of Rs 2.99 billion.
