Arzu Rana files complaints against nine TV channels

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has filed complaints with the Press Council against nine television channels.

Arzu filed the complaints alleging that nine TV channels including Kantipur Television HD, Sagarmatha TV, YOHO Television HD News24 Nepal, broadcast objectionable content linking her to Bechan Jha, who was arrested on June 29 in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee case.

Jha, who was arrested in Kanchanpur, is accused of acting as a mediator to introduce intermediaries to the then Home Minister and Secretary.

Various media outlets had linked Arzu’s name with Jha.

Bechan had also mentioned Arzu’s name in this case.

In her complaint, Arzu demanded action against the media outlets for publishing and broadcasting misleading news with the intent to defame her character.

She also requested the removal of such news.

“The news articles and broadcasts linking Arzu Rana Deuba in the above matter are baseless, misleading, and intended to assassinate her character,” stated the complaint sent by her personal secretary, Kamal Rawal. “I request that the editors, publishers, and journalists responsible for preparing these misleading news pieces be prosecuted according to the law and instructed to remove the false information.”
