PM Dahal calls meeting of ruling coalition

Cabinet reshuffle likely?

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is poised to reshuffle the cabinet tomorrow (Tuesday), contingent upon smooth final arrangements or as per the PM’s intended plan.

Sources close to the Prime Minister disclosed that the Janamat Party, holding 6 MPs in the House of Representatives, and the Nagarik Unmukti Party with 4 MPs, are set to join the government.

To facilitate this, Prime Minister Dahal has convened a meeting of the ruling coalition parties this evening.

Sources indicated that the cabinet reshuffle could be completed within two to three days.

“An agreement has been reached to administer the oath, tentatively scheduled for July 3,” the source added.

Furthermore, it has been agreed to transfer the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation from the CPN-Maoist Center to the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Ranjita Shrestha, Chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, is likely to assume the ministerial role.

Similarly, CK Raut, Chairman of the Janamat Party, is expected to be appointed as a minister, although the specific portfolio has yet to be determined.

Recent political developments have unfolded since Saturday, following a three-hour meeting between UML Chairman KP Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at Oli’s residence in Balkot.

The implications of this meeting, attended by Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, lawmaker and spouse of Sher Bahadur Deuba, are being closely watched in political circles.

Both the Nepali Congress and the UML have refrained from disclosing details of the discussions between Oli and Deuba.
