Bhim Kumal to represent Nepal in Paris Paralympics

KATHMANDU: Bhim Bahadur Kumal, a para swimmer from Nepal, has been selected to compete in the Paris 2020 Paralympics.

The prestigious event will host over 4,000 athletes from across the globe, engaging in 549 medal events in Paris, France from August 28 to September.

Saroj Shrestha, Chairperson of the National Para Swimming Association Nepal, confirmed Bhim’s participation after securing slots through bipartite invitations.

Bhim, who holds Nepal’s national record with a time of 35.01 seconds in freestyle, will compete in this category at the upcoming Paris event.

Hailing from Nareshwor Benikhola in Gorkha district, the 41-year-old athlete has previously participated in four major international competitions, including the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships in London.

Currently training at Kalopul’s West Venue, Bhim expressed his joy and dedication towards achieving selection for the Paris Paralympics, highlighting his rigorous preparation for the event.

Joining him will be two other athletes, Palesha Govardan and Bharat Singh Mahata, representing Nepal in taekwondo.
