KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Pradeep Poudel has expressed concern over the government’s decision to open labor migration to Russia.

Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Monday, Poudel voiced his objections, stating that the government’s move to open labor migration to Russia amid the current circumstances is alarming.

He accused the government of prioritizing personal interests over ensuring humane treatment and proper labor standards.

Poudel also urged the government to address the concerns raised by the international community regarding the unsuccessful repatriation of Nepali citizens serving in the Russian military.

He highlighted the government’s negligence in keeping track of the Nepali citizens in the Russian military, as well as its failure to conduct DNA tests of deceased Nepali individuals.

Moreover, Poudel emphasized the importance of the government’s attention to the plight of citizens in distress, urging the Foreign Minister to remain vigilant and ensure proper oversight of Nepali citizens in Russia.

He stressed the need for the government to stay informed about the situation of Nepali citizens residing in Russia.
