KATHMANDU: Industrialist Arun Chaudhary and Ajitnarayan Singh Thapa, alleged of unlawfully acquiring the land of a Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory, have been admitted to Chirayu Hospital in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur from police custody.

Following their arrest, the duo claimed illness, prompting a visit to Chirayu Hospital in Dhapakhel, for a check-up by officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police on Thursday evening.

Subsequently, they were to be kept at the hospital overnight.

The Kathmandu District Court had initially granted 4-day detention for industrialist Chaudhary and Thapa, the former executive head of the factory.

However, suspicions arose when the police suggested that the accused may have feigned illness as an attempt to avoid custody.

Both Chaudhary and Thapa were arrested on Thursday afternoon for allegedly seizing the land of the Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory.

Chaudhary, a member of the Chaurhdry Group and younger brother of industrialist and lawmaker Binod Chaudhary involved in the land acquisition, had been residing abroad to evade an ongoing police investigation.

He was apprehended from his residence in Lazimpat around 1 pm.

Meanwhile, Thapa, currently a business partner of Arun Chaudhary, was arrested during an outing to buy fruits.

The arrests were executed by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police following the directives of Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha.

The court’s decision to grant a 4-day detention emphasizes the seriousness of the charges against the accused individuals.
