Finance Minister insists on promoting exports of typical goods

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has underlined the need of promoting export trade as the backbone of nation’s economy.

In his address to the fourth anniversary of Federation of Exports Entrepreneurs Nepal here today, the Finance Minister stressed that Nepal should focus on producing typical and specific goods instead of high technology-based goods.

“The future of export trade is brighter and the government is doing its best to build an atmosphere favourable for export economy. Nepali products are unique and original for the export,” he said.

He also took time to say that it is irrelevant to raise the issue of SAFTA by overlooking possibilities to secure benefits from a trade agreement with India.

“The role of exporters is equally significant for economic growth, employment creation, revenue growth and for the promotion of sustainable development,” he further added.

As he said, the government has been presently unable to address the genuine concerns of FENN promptly due to availability of economic resources in the country and the government will consider them when time turns favourable.
