BIRATNAGAR: Dengue infection continues to spread in Morang district.
According to the district health office in Biratnagar, 865 dengue cases have been detected as of now from June 16.
The cases include 650 in Pathari Shanishchare Municipality alone. Out of the total 17 rural municipalities in the district, the disease has taken its toll in seven.
So far, no casualties have been reported from the disease, said Dr Suresh Mehata, chief of the health office.
Efforts are on in coordination with the local levels to control the infection, he said.
As its part, a search-and-destroy campaign has been launched wherein larvae of the virus carrying mosquitoes are searched and destroyed, he said.
Awareness programs have also been launched. Required human resources have been mobilized, and treatment intensified while test kits have been sent to local levels as per the demand, he said.
Out of 15 dengue patients visiting the Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar, 12 were discharged, and three are still receiving treatment, said the hospital medical superintendent Dr Chandra Lal Jha.
