Government simplifies process for disbursing funds, Accelerates temporary housing construction for earthquake-victims

KATHMANDU: The government has simplified procedures related to fund disbursement for the construction of temporary housing for families affected by earthquakes.

This recent amendment to the ‘Temporary Housing Construction Grant Procedure for Earthquake-Affected Households-2080’ has led to the expedited allocation of funds.

As a significant step, an initial tranche of Rs 25.35 million has been allocated for the construction of temporary housing for earthquake-affected families. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that this amount has been allocated to 1,014 beneficiaries, with funds already disbursed to these individuals.

Dhurba Bahadur Khadka, the spokesperson for the authority, provided details on the distribution of funds. Among the allocations, Rs 1.6 million has been earmarked for 64 families in Tribeni Rural Municipality, Rs 12.5 million for 500 beneficiaries in Aathbiskot Municipality, and Rs 11.25 million for 450 beneficiaries in Sanibheri Rural Municipality of Rukum Paschim district. Each beneficiary is set to receive Rs 25,000 as the first tranche.

This streamlined approach aims to fast-track the construction of temporary housing, providing much-needed support to families grappling with the aftermath of earthquakes.
