Speaker urges new presidents of parliamentary thematic committees to deliver effectively

KATHMANDU: A meeting between Speaker Devraj Ghimire and newly elected presidents of 10 thematic committees under the House of Representatives was held today.

In the meeting, the Speaker directed the presidents of the committees to ensure the effective operation of the respective committee and to efficiently handle the bills currently under consideration.

The Speaker in the meeting which was also attended by Deputy Speaker Indira Rana and the secretary, briefed the new presidents about procedures to conduct the business, the existing needs of the committee and of the status of the bills.

Talking to media persons following the meeting, the Speaker said that discussions centered on tasks to be undertaken by the committees, their responsibilities and potential approaches to enhance the efficiency of parliamentary proceedings.

“The overall performance of the parliament relies on the effectiveness of the committees,” he said adding that bills of a specific nature had remained in the committees and they would be receiving more bills ahead for further executions. “The committees are expected to finalize such documents promptly.”

Finance Committee President Santosh Chalise said the meeting focused on making the committee’s business prompt and effective.

Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee President Bimala Subedi said during the discussions, the Speaker advised the presidents of the committees to deliver efficiently.
