BIRATNAGAR: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Oli, has criticized the 12-point ‘interpretative declaration’ ratified by the House of Representatives (HoR) regarding the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), labeling it as a mere farce.
Commencing its implementation in Nepal Wednesday, the MCC project has drawn Oli’s scathing assessment on its very day of initiation.
In candid remarks delivered at Biratnagar Airport, Oli asserted, “The 12-point declaration stands as a testament to deception—a fabrication presented to the Nepali people by the then ruling party. It serves as evidence of the duplicitous nature of their actions.”
Oli went on to accuse the previous government of betraying the Parliament’s trust, emphasizing that a thorough discourse should have transpired before the endorsement, evaluating its appropriateness.
Recounting a recent statement by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Oli noted, “Even if Dahal seeks clarification from the MCC Vice President now, it is clear that this situation will yield no substantial resolution.”
The passage of the MCC project by the Parliament, accompanied by a 12-point explanatory memorandum amidst protests from the CPN-UML, remains a contentious issue.
During that period, Sher Bahadur Deuba served as the Prime Minister representing the Nepali Congress.
