Gold smuggling case: Hotel owner Chhiring arrested from Thamel



KATHMANDU: In connection with the one quintal gold smuggling case, Dawa Chhiring, the owner of Hotel Vienna in Thamel, has been arrested by the Department of Revenue Investigation.

Chhiring was taken into custody on Sunday morning at Hotel Vienna in Thamel, Kathmandu, as reported by reliable sources.

The Department’s team made the arrest after discovering his involvement in the large quantity of gold that was imported through Tribhuvan International Airport.

Being of Nepali origin and a Belgian citizen, Chhiring’s arrest brings the total number of individuals detained in this case to 18.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Department has seized CCTV footage and computers from the hotel to gather essential evidence.

A Department source stated, “We have secured documents, computers, and the CCTV footage.”
