Lumpy skin infection spreading in cattle



DANG: Lumpy skin disease has been spreading rapidly in cattle in the district.

Banglachuli, Rapti, Lamhi, Garhwa, Rajpur, Ghorahika and other areas of the district are reported to be affected by this viral disease.

More than 250 cattle in the municipality have fallen ill due to the communicable disease, Chief of the Livestock Department of Banglachuli Rural Municipality, Govinda Nepali, said.

Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that is transmitted by flies, mosquitoes or ticks. Fever and nodules on the skin are its symptoms which can also lead to death.

Samples of sick animals sent to the regional laboratory in Surkhet confirmed the infection of lumpy skin. Likewise, more than 350 cows are sick in ward nos. 5, 7, 8 and 9 of Rapti rural municipality, said Jibaraj Paudel, Chief of the Animal Services Branch of the municipality.

Five domesticated animals have reportedly perished in Rupakot, Ghoshkhola and other places of Rapti Rural Municipality.
