KATHMANDU: Vice-President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav said unity in diversity is Nepal’s unique national identity.

Issuing a statement on the occasion of 16th Republic Day today, he said the day should be taken as an opportunity to express commitment to safeguarding the constitution, federal democratic republican system, sovereignty proportional inclusiveness and socialism.”

VP Yadav also wished all the Nepalis sisters and brothers at home and abroad and expressed and extended heartfelt tributes to all the martyrs sacrificing their ‘precious’ lives to establish a democratic republic.

Nepal on this day in 2008 adopted federal democratic republic system abolishing 240-year-old monarchy.

In the message, Yadav expressed high regard to all those who were injured and succumbed to the struggles from historic people’s movement to armed movement, Madhesh movement to protect and promote rights of indigenous communities.

Stating that the Constitution of Nepal adopted republican system, federalism, inclusiveness, equality and rule of law, the Vice-President said that we could see diversity and commonness in the legislation, judicial and executive as well as bureaucracy based on characteristics of the constitution.
