KATHMANDU: Nepal beat Malaysia by 10 wickets in the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers and are one win away from qualifying for the World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka next year.
With the fourth win in a row, Nepal is one win away from playing in the U-19 World Cup next year.
Provided Nepal clinches victory against UAE on Thursday, Nepal’s U-19 team will get chance to contest in the U-19 World Cup 2024.
Chasing a winning target of 73 runs for victory, Nepal completed it without losing any wicket in 9 overs.
For Nepal, Deepak Bohra scored 38 off 29 balls with 8 fours. Similarly, Arjun Kumal scored 21 runs off 25 balls with 3 fours. Nepal met the target by collecting 14 extra runs.
Before that, Malaysia won the toss at 2 in the Malek Cricket Ground and chose to bat first. They were all out for 72 runs in 35.3 overs. None of the Malaysian batsmen could perform well against the Nepalese bowling.
Malaysia’s top batsman Mohammad Akram Malek scored 26 runs off 51 balls with 3 fours. He was caught out by Bishal Bikram KC at long-on in the tune of playing a big shot off spinner Dipesh Kandel. After that, none of the batters could spend much time at the crease.
Along with the domestic team UAE, there are six teams including Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia and Singapore. The top team will be qualified to play U-19 World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in 2024.
