UML will field candidate for President: Subash Nembang

CPN-UML vice-chairman Subash Nembang has said that UML would field a candidate for the post of President.

Speaking to the media after the Martyrs Memorial Program held at the party office Chyasal on Saturday, Nembang claimed that the ruling coalition has already agreed on the UML’s candidacy for the President.

Election for President should be held by March 12: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has opined that the presidential election should not be postponed under any circumstances.

Inaugurating the first session of Nepal Press Union Province 1, in Biratnagar, on Saturday, leader Koirala demanded that the presidential election should be held before March 12.

Nepal progresses in hunger reduction, climbs 81st rank on 2022 hunger index

Nepal has made improvements to reduce hunger with a score of 19.1 in the 2022 Global Hunger Index (GHI), a drop from 21.2 in 2014.

The country is ranked 81st out of 121 countries, ahead of some South Asian countries, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. However, it is behind Sri Lanka which is ranked 64th with 13.6 points. India’s position has depleted because it fell to 107th position with 29.1 points. Similarly, Bangladesh is ranked 84th with 19.6, while Pakistan 99th with 26.1. Afghanistan is ranked 1.9th with 29.9.

The GHI report was published jointly by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe amid a function here organized by the NGO Federation of Nepal. The index less than 10 points reflect low hunger, and between 10 and 19.9 moderate hunger. Similarly, from 20 to 34.9 indicates serious hunger, and from 35 to 49.9 alarming. Above 50 reveals extremely alarming.

Aliza Gautam joins Nagarik Unmukti Party today

Actress and model Eliza Gautam, wife of Reporters Club president Rishi Dhamala, is going to join the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).

According to Dharma Bahadur Chaudhary, the leader of the Lumbini Province Parliamentary Party, Gautam is being welcomed to the party during a program at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi on Saturday.

Home Ministry denies Rabi Lamichhane ‘former minister’ status

The Home Ministry has not even included the name of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who was sacked over the citizenship dispute, in the list of former ministers.

Lamichhane was sacked after the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court annulled his status of a lawmaker and ordered him to regain his citizenship on Friday.

SEE to be held from March 31

The National Examination Board (NEB) has published the schedule for this year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE).

According to the decision of the board, the NEB has decided to conduct the SEE from March 31 to April 12, 2023.
