Selfie-Kali claims title of Elephant Beauty Contest



CHITWAN: Selfie-Kali has won the title at the Elephant Beauty Contest held today at the 17th Chitwan Elephant and Tourism Festival in Sauraha, Chitwan.

In the competition organized as part of the festival, 17 elephants participated, and Selfie-Kali, aged 17, emerged victorious, surpassing other competing elephants.

Rimjhim-Kali, an 11-year-old elephant from Chitwan National Park, secured second place, and Samriddhi-Kali, 22, affiliated with the United Elephant Operation Cooperative, secured third place, scoring 393 and 356, respectively. Participants in the contest included Laxmi-Kali, Bijuli-Kali, Rani-Maya-Kali, and Champak-Kali.

The assessment for the beautiful elephant competition was based on cleanliness, discipline in the elephant’s gait, treatment to others including human being, and evaluation of the elephant’s conduct as per human values.

Binod Timilsina, a member of the decision-making committee, highlighted that they assessed the elephant’s grooming, decorations, the sparkle in their eyes, their manner of walking, discipline, the elephant’s age, and the shine of their skin for the assessment of beauty.

They also considered the elephant’s agility, obedience, calmness, demeanor, and physical appearance for the beautiful elephant evaluation.
