KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation has announced its plans to initiate direct flights from Bhairahawa to Hong Kong.

Currently, the national flag carrier operates direct flights from Kathmandu to Hong Kong, and it aims to expand its air connectivity to Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, by operating direct flights from Bhairahawa as well.

In addition, Nepal Airlines intends to launch flights from Bhairahawa to New Delhi, India, in the near future. Ramesh Poudel, the spokesperson for Nepal Airlines, confirmed that the final preparations are underway for the commencement of direct flights from Bhairahawa to Hong Kong and New Delhi.

“We are readying for the Bhairahawa-Hong Kong flight, which will be finalized within a day or two. We also have plans to extend our flights to other countries, including New Delhi in India,” said Poudel.

According to the spokesperson, ticket bookings for flights to both Hong Kong and New Delhi will be available within the next 15 days. Nepal Airlines is also considering operating flights to additional destinations such as Dubai and Doha.

Presently, Nepal Airlines operates two weekly flights to Hong Kong from Kathmandu and two daily flights to New Delhi. However, the exact number of flights that will be operated between these destinations from Bhairahawa is yet to be determined.

Since June 12, Nepal Airlines has been operating regular flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. The airport commenced commercial operations on May 16, 2022. While Jazeera Air previously operated flights to this airport, it has temporarily suspended services citing technical reasons.
