Home Minister Lamichhane submits resignation to PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane has resigned from the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

According to his Secretariat, Lamichhane reached Baluwatar on Friday evening and submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ after the decision of the Supreme Court to revoke the post.

Lamichhane became the Home Minister along with the Deputy Prime Minister on December 26, 2022, in the government led by Maoist Center Chairman and Prime Minister Dahal.

On Friday, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court revoked Lamichhane’s position as a parliamentarian.

Along with the Member of Parliament, Lamichhane’s ministerial and party Chairman posts have also been automatically revoked.

The Supreme Court ruled that Lamichhane was ineligible to be a candidate as he did not initiate the process for regaining Nepali citizenship after renouncing American citizenship.
