Tensions flare at Manmohan Hospital in Birtamod after a patient’s death

BIRTAMOD: Tensions flared at Manmohan Hospital in Birtamod, Jhapa, as a demonstration unfolded in response to the recent death of a patient.

The deceased, 35-year-old Narbada Baskota from Birtamod 9, was admitted to the hospital on Monday morning for the treatment of swelling under her knee.

The situation escalated when the grieving relatives of the deceased encircled the hospital, attempting to vandalize it while alleging that the patient’s demise was a result of the hospital’s negligence.

Demanding compensation and seeking accountability, the family insisted that action be taken against the attending doctor.

Hospital management stated that the woman, admitted for treatment on Monday morning, succumbed to her condition later in the evening.

The bereaved family is seeking compensation for the upbringing and education of the deceased’s children, coupled with demands for punitive measures against the healthcare professionals allegedly responsible for the negligence.

The relatives accuse the hospital of neglect, asserting that the patient, admitted to the emergency room, received no treatment throughout the day, and no medical report was provided.

They argue that the failure to report and treat the patient constitutes negligence.

The hospital administration has acknowledged the incident, revealing that discussions are underway to address the matter.

As the deceased’s body rests in the hospital’s ICU, entry has been restricted.
