SC issues show cause order for not filing case against former PM duo Nepal and Bhattarai
The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order demanding an explanation for the failure to register cases against former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai in the Lalita Niwas land grab case. Today, a single bench presided over by Justice Vinod Sharma directed the government to clarify why legal action has not been initiated against the former prime ministers in the Lalita Niwas land case.
Prime Minister Dahal arrives in Chongqing
Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is on an official visit to China, has arrived in Chongqing, Tuesday. Vice Mayors of Chongqing Municipality, Dan Yanzheng and Jang Gaoji welcomed Prime Minister Dahal at Chongqing Airport. Prime Minister Dahal is accompanied by Foreign Minister NP Saud as well as other members of his delegation.
NA meeting postponed till October 5
The National Assembly meeting has been rescheduled to October 5th. Originally slated for September 29th, the Federal Parliament Secretariat announced the postponement through a notice issued on Tuesday. The Secretariat sources revealed that the meeting has been schedule due to the lack of the agenda.
19th Asian Games: 228 medals finalized so far, China on top, Nepal nil
A total of 228 medals have been secured so far by the players from different countries in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. But, Nepal remained unable to secure any medal till date. Among 45 countries participating in the Games, players from 25 countries got the medals. Nepal is in dire need of excelling performance.
Three die of dengue infection in Tanahu
Three persons died of dengue infection in Tanahu in recent two months. All three fatalities are from Byas Municipality. The health section of Byas Municipality informed that those losing lives to dengue infection were a 35-year-old man from ward no 10, a 15-year-old boy from ward no 11, and 13-year-old girl from ward no 2.
Cricketer Sandeep leaves for China today to play Asian games
Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane left for China today to represent Nepal in the upcoming Asian Games. Just three days ago, Lamichhane faced the hurdle of a court case, which prevented him from joining the national team on their initial journey.
Commercial banks make a profit of Rs 8.5 billion in mid-July to mid-Aug
In the first month of the current financial year, commercial banks have earned a profit of Rs 8.52 billion 49 lakh. As many as 20 commercial banks that are currently operating have made this profit in the month of July. Global IME Bank Limited is among the highest profit earners in this period.
Man arrested for abducting and raping minor in Surkhet
Bhaktiram Kandel, a 25-year-old resident of Chamundabindrasaini Rural Municipality-3, Dailekh, has been arrested by the police on charges of raping a 14-year-old girl in Deragari, Surkhet. According to police, Kandel abducted the girl on September 16th, coercing her into an auto rickshaw, and then transported her to the Kankrebihar forest.
NC to draw PM Dahal’s attention to formulate essential laws
The Nepali Congress, a key partner in the ruling coalition, is gearing up to draw Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s attention towards critical matters concerning legislation and the welfare of the people. The party has decided to hold “serious discussion” with Prime Minister Dahal soon after he returns from China.
Indra Jatra begins in Bhaktapur with erection of Lingo
Indra Jatra, the festival of rain and good harvest, begins today in Bhaktapur district. The eight-day festivity, having religious and cultural significance, is observed with much fanfare especially amid the Newar communities in the Kathmandu Valley. It is also marked in districts such as Kavrepalanchowk and Dolakha. The Indra Jatra, the main day of the festival, falls on the Bhadra Shukla Chathurdashi, the fourth day of the waxing moon in the month of Bhadra as per the lunar calendar.
U-19 SAFF Championship: Nepal to play against India tomorrow
The stage is set for a U-19 SAFF football championship semi-final as Nepal prepares to face off against India in Kathmandu tomorrow (Wednesday). Nepal has secured their spot in the semi-finals with a victory over the Maldives in the previous match.
