PM Dahal fueled ethnic tensions: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala leveled accusations against Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, alleging his attempts to ignite ethnic conflict within the nation.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Nepal Press Union’s Morang branch in Biratnagar, Dr. Koirala pointed a finger at Prime Minister Dahal, asserting that he is exacerbating conflicts just when religious harmony is dwindling.

“In the current scenario, the prime minister has shown intent in sowing the seeds of ethnic conflict,” he said.

Dr. Koirala regarded the recent incident in Dharan, Sunsari, as an issue that could have a detrimental impact on the nation.

He iterated, “Given the absence of a religious majority in the country, we must respect the constitutional provisions. Anything beyond the scope of the Constitution cannot be endorsed. Disturbing harmony in any way should be avoided.”

Dr. Koirala also highlighted the increasing presence of international smugglers within the country.

The Nepali Congress leader commented, “The presence of gold smugglers has attracted global attention. While India and China are implicated in the gold scandal, other nations are equally involved. A high-level investigative committee should be appointed by the government to probe the gold smuggling case. People must comprehend the gravity of the gold scandal.”
