Lumbini Province Chief asks parties to stake claim to form govt



LUMBINI: Lumbini Province Chief, Amik Sherchan, has called on the parties representing in the Province Assembly to stake a claim for the formation of the provincial government, in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

Issuing a statement, Sherchan called on parties to stake claims for the formation of the government by 4 pm Thursday.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Leela Giri-led government was toppled after he failed to get a vote of confidence.

Province Chief Sherchan called for the majority of two or more parties to stake a claim by 4 o’clock on April 25.

In the 87-member Lumbini State Assembly, the CPN-UML has 29 MPs, Nepali Congress 27, Maoist Center 11, and RPP and Nagarik Unmukti Party 4 each.

Similarly, the Province Assembly has three MPs each from Janamat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party; one each from Rastriya Janamorcha and Unified Socialist, and one independent MP.
