No need to give relief to alleged rape victim in Sandeep Lamichhane related case: District Court

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has refused to grant interim relief to the girl who accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane of raping her.

The single bench of Justice Prem Prasad Neupane passed the order on March 24.

According to the Court sources, the matter will be finally settled at the time of the judgment as all the procedures have been completed for the final judgment.

“As all the procedures for the final hearing on the minor-rape allegations against Sandeep Lamichhane are nearly complete, it does not seem necessary to pay the instant relief to the petitioner as sought in the application,” the court said, adding, “The judgment in the present case will be in accordance with the law when the final verdict comes.”

Earlier, the government side submitted an application stating that the victim needed immediate relief.

Sandeep, who was remanded in custody by the order of the District Court, was ordered to be released on bail of two million rupees by the Patan High Court.

Although initially banned from going abroad by the order of the High Court, Lamichhane was relieved from the condition by the Supreme Court.

Apart from imprisonment and fines, there is also a provision to provide compensation to the victims of rape cases.

The final hearing has been scheduled for Monday.
