Curtailing Speaker’s power a must as his intentions are wrong: Lawmaker Metmani Choudhary

KATHMANDU: CPN-Unified Socialist lawmaker Metmani Choudhary has said that since the intention of Speaker Devraj Ghimire is wrong, he (the Speaker) should be ‘controlled’ by curtailing his powers.

Speaking to the press at the Parliament building complex on Sunday, Choudhary also accused the Speaker of acting in a way that is uncooperative to the government.

He argued that the speaker is not everything in a democratic state system.

“The speaker is not the all-important person in a democratic system, he should act as per the spirit of the parliament and should not act like a puppet in the hand of a particular party,” lawmaker Choudhary said, adding, “Unfortunately, in the recent period, the Speaker’s role has been ‘not to cooperate the government as much as possible’ on purpose. This tendency has to be checked on time.”
