Security officials from Nepal, India agree to control cross-border crimes



KATHMANDU: Security officials of Nepal and India have agreed to work in a collaborative manner to curb illegal transactions and control cross-border crimes that take place in the Nepal and India border areas.

A meeting of the Nepal-India Border District Consultation Committee in Janakpurdham of Madhes Province decided to control illegal activities that could take place along the Nepal-India border areas on mutual coordination and understanding, Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, Kashiraj Dahal said.

Dahal said that the officials have agreed to take additional decisions based on a report of the monitoring committee of the two countries’ officials for controlling the encroachments taking place in the no man’s land and to make alternative provisions for the homeless people.

Likewise, both the countries’ officials would work jointly to control drug addiction and its smuggling.

The officials have agreed to deepen further cooperation between the Armed Police Force, Nepal and SSB of India to control trafficking in persons and mobility of criminals happening due to open border.

The District Magistrate of Madhubani district of India Arvind Kumar Verma led the Indian team in the talks while chief district officers from Dhanusha, Mahottari, Saptari and Siraha districts were present from Nepal side.

The next meeting of the Committee, which takes place in every three months would be convened in Madhubani district, Dahal said.
