NC CWC meeting postponed indefinitely

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) leadership has postponed the party’s central working committee (CWC) meeting.

The meeting has been postponed indefinitely, according to NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel.

Party insiders, however, said that the meeting has been postponed as the leadership could not withstand the pressure within the party.

The NC party, which has been rescheduling the date of the Central Committee meeting time and again, had earlier decided to hold the meeting on January 29.

Initially, the meeting was scheduled for January 6.

Earlier, the party had decided to hold the meeting on January 12, which was postponed to January 29.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who has been criticized within the party for failing to keep the ruling coalition intact, had earlier called the meeting of the party’s central committee to review current political developments and the November 20 elections.

However, the meetings have been affected by recent political developments and internal pressure.

Leaders within the party, led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala, have been mounting pressure on the party leadership to call the meeting at a time when the party’s trust among the general people has been declining lately.

The political parties in the coalition led by NC President Deuba, which contested the local as well as general elections together, failed to remain intact due to what has been said “stubbornness” of Deuba.

Maoist Center Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda then forged a coalition with the CPN-UML and other political forces to form the government.

NC President Deuba, meanwhile, has been discussing with leaders close to him to address the dissatisfaction within the party.

Meanwhile, expressing the hope that his party would get the post of President, Deuba has picked the names of senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and another leader Krishna Prasad SItaula as the Presidential candidate from his party.
