DAMAULI: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed the need to fortify the Federal Democratic Republic.

Inaugurating the Nepali Congress party’s Tanahu office building on Monday, Deuba highlighted the absence of an alternative to the democracy.

The NC President pointed out the necessity for agreement and cooperation among parties to fortify the Federal Democratic Republic.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the party internally for advancement.

“The party needs to strengthen for progress. Only then can we become a significant and powerful party for the nation,” he said, claiming that the absence of a single party majority due to the current constitution makes it essential for alliances during elections.

“The Constitution is inclusive. A single-party majority won’t occur due to the constitutional provisions. Forming alliances can make NC a significant power,” he added.

During the program, NC Vice-President and Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung, stressed the need for agreement, cooperation, and understanding in the present context. He connected the parties—NC, CPN-UML, and CPN-Maoist Center—in addressing the nation’s major problems of education, poverty, and corruption.

Highlighting the importance of unity among the three major parties for the nation’s prosperity, he said, “The achievements so far, from the comprehensive peace agreement till now, are a result of the unity among the three parties. That unity is still necessary.”

Previously, NC President Deuba unveiled the plaque at the building built by donation collection. NC Tanahu District President Jitprakash Ale informed that the building, constructed at a cost of nearly 20 million rupees, spans eight annas of land and has four stories.
