GULMI: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa emphasized the significance of the republic, attributing the ongoing discussions and queries surrounding its viability to the existence of this very system in the country.
During the inaugural session of the NC Gulmi’s second district conference, Thapa recounted being detained for his opposition to the monarchy in the past. He vividly remembered his arrest while attempting to meet NC leader Pradeep Poudel in jail.
“The present scrutiny of the republic stems from various angles,” Thapa remarked. “Critics challenge the system because it grants people the liberty to voice dissent. Such freedoms were unimaginable in the era of monarchy.”
Addressing a gathering at Chidichaur in Tamghas, the headquarters of Gulmi, Thapa extolled the republican system, stating it as the best governance brought forth by the people. He advocated against seeking alternative systems, urging instead to focus on rectifying the prevalent shortcomings within the country.
