UML Chair demands empowered commission to crack down on culprits in recent gold scandal

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli has demanded that jurisdiction should be given to a high-level probe commission to take action against the guilty in a recent gold scam.

Addressing the first convention of UML’s Bagmati Province Committee, Chair Oli urged the government not to delay to forming of the probe commission and not to limit the commission only to recommending policy-level reforms.

Although an understanding was reached among major political parties to form a high-level probe commission to carry out an investigation into a recent gold scam, there was a dispute over the jurisdiction of the commission.

On the occasion, he directed the cadres to move ahead with a determination to form a strong national force.

The UML Chair wished that the convention could elect a matured leadership that can face the upcoming election in 2084 BS by breaking the conspiracy being hatched against the party.

Stating that it was not acceptable to his party to remain in a backward party as education, science, and technology were started from the Nepali land, he shared that his party was committed to eliminating poverty and the backwardness of the country.

Chair Oli remembered that he while leading the government had brought Biplav and CK Raut groups into peaceful activities.

He also demanded the government address the dissatisfaction of teachers in the provision of the School Education Bill.

The closed session of the convention, which has around 1,200 representatives, will be held at Kamaladi-based Nepal Academy on Tuesday.
