Former King Gyanendra likely to tout as potential leader amidst public skepticism: Dr. Narayan Khadka

KATHMANDU: Dr. Narayan Khadka, a central member of the Nepali Congress (NC), has voiced concerns over growing skepticism within civil society and among citizens regarding the government’s ability to deliver justice and good governance.

This skepticism has led to a search for a potential “hero” to lead them, with former King Gyanendra being increasingly seen as a tempting choice to assume a leadership role, he opined.

Addressing the Central Committee meeting of the NC, Dr. Khadka emphasized that in the current climate of societal unrest, political leaders must shoulder their responsibilities.

“The masses and society have become increasingly disenchanted, and they are searching for a hero. In the absence of a unifying leader, there has been a rise in incidents involving religious intolerance, bomb threats, and the use of khukuris,” he remarked. “This is a concerning situation, and we must ask ourselves whether conditions will remain the same or improve in the next two years. Is the situation deteriorating, or should we prepare to lead in these challenging times?”

Dr. Khadka also noted that a demonstration in support of the former king had recently taken place in Bhaktapur, underscoring the public’s growing inclination toward him as a potential leader.
