Government increases women’s reservation to 50 percent in civil service seats

KATHMANDU: The government has allocated 50 percent of the reserved civil service seats for women.

The recent amendment to the Federal Civil Service Bill 2080, approved by the Council of Ministers, has restructured the seat distribution, with 51 percent designated as open seats and 49 percent reserved for various categories.

Previously, the distribution stood at 55 percent for open category seats and 45 percent for reserved category seats.

However, this amendment increases the reservation percentage by four percent and includes the Tharu cluster among the castes eligible for reservation.

As per the revised proposal, 27.7 percent of seats have been earmarked for Khas Arya, 25.7 percent for the indigenous community, and 15.3 percent for the Madhesi quota.

This substantial change in seat allocation is expected to promote gender equality and provide greater opportunities for women in the civil service sector.
