POKHARA: The Pokhara Metropolitan City has announced to go for the enforcement of the Supreme Court order regarding the Phewa Lake conservation.
Presenting the policy and programs of Pokhara Metropolitan City for the next fiscal year 2080/81, Mayor Dhanraj Acharya mentioned that it (the metropolis) will follow the Supreme Court’s order to remove the structures that fall within the 65-meter area around the Phewa Lake.
Mayor Acharya presented the policy and program for the financial year 080/81 in the 13th Municipal Assembly held on Sunday and informed that necessary arrangements will be made to implement the order of the Supreme Court on Phewa Lake conservation.
The metropolis has taken a policy to protect the wetlands and watershed areas of Pokhara’s other lakes included in the World Ramsar list, including Phewa Lake.
“A special program will be conducted for the protection of water bodies and wetlands of lakes listed in the Ramsar list including Phewa, Begnas, and Rupa,” Mayor Acharya said.
The Supreme Court, June 25, gave the verdict to maintain the Phewa Lake standard of 65 meters and to remove the illegal structures constructed within that area.
