RPP decides to quit Prachanda-led government

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to quit the government and withdraw the support given to the CPN-Maoist Center chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’-led government.

RPP General Secretary Sharadraj Pathak informed that the joint meeting of RPP Central Committee and Parliamentary Party held at the party office Dhumbarahi on Saturday morning decided to withdraw the support given to the government and leave the government.

He added that RPP has decided to withdraw support given to the government at province level as well.

“It has been decided to do the same in the province,” he said.

At the initiation of CPN-UML chairman KP Oli, seven parties including Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, RPP agreed to make Prachanda the prime minister on December 25.

RPP also participated in the provincial government formed accordingly.

In the Prachanda-led government, RPP chairman Rajendra Lingden was in the role of Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister. Similarly, Bikram Pandey was made Urban Development Minister and Deepak Bahadur Singh the Minister of State for Energy from RPP.

Earlier, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) had also left the Prachanda-led government. The RSP did has not withdrawn its support to the government despite its ministers’ resignation en-masse.
