SC receives writ seeking relief for Durga Prasai’s detention

KATHMANDU: A petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court challenging the detention of medical practitioner Durga Prasai, alleging a breach of his fundamental human rights.

Senior Advocate Dr. Surendra Bhandari filed the writ in the Supreme Court, seeking protection for Prasai’s human rights. The petition argued that Prasai has been unable to partake in his own initiated campaign, asserting a violation of his freedom of thought and expression as guaranteed by Article 17 of the Constitution.

The petitioner contended that instead of respecting the fundamental rights of citizens expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s actions, Prasai has been subjected to unlawful surveillance, detention, and falsely implicated in various cases.

The hearing for the writ petition is scheduled for Sunday.
